Kids in SMA
One of the things that made us fall in love with San Miguel is how great it is for families—especially in the summer! There are so many fun camps and activities for the kids, but also plenty to do together. It’s the kind of place where everyone gets to have a good time.

Camps & Classes:

Unlike Houston or any major cities, you don't need to stress about booking camps months in advance, we have literally enrolled the day before! Just send a quick email or WhatsApp message and the amazing people of SMA will take great care of you! Heads up, most camps take pesos the morning of camp, this is very normal ;)

-
Centro Mexicano (Spanish for Kids)
Fun, immersive Spanish camp that include art, music, cooking, and more. A great way to mix culture and learning. One day our kids made pizza, another they took pesos and had to negotiate in Spanish at the market, another they had relay races at the park. Every day is different and the staff put a lot of thought and love into the schedule.

Instituto Allende – Kids Summer Art Camp
Tied for our favorite with Centro! This is a must do camp if your kid likes art. Camps run by the week and are cheaper the more weeks you do. They include all art supplies and you pack a lunch. Every Friday parents are invited to see the artwork the children made during the week. This is a very special place, a magical oasis in the city, and one of our absolute favorites. They offer art and Spanish classes for adults too!
 -
Liceo de la Lengua Española – Spanish Classes for Kids
Engaging Spanish classes for children aged 4–12, using games, songs, and hands-on projects and field trips to make learning fun. They also teach adults! Tip: You can pay more to have the kids stay longer!

-
Hiru ArteStudio at Fábrica La Aurora

Equine Kids: About 20 minutes outside of town by car, this is a true rancho experience for your kids. They learn horse riding, aerial acrobats, crafts, splash days, and farm animals all in one magical setting.

-
Camp Los Huizaches: Highly rated overnight summer camp about 3 hours from SMA

-
Teen Connect Adventures: Kristen puts on several different camps during the summer catered to Tweens and teens. From nature all the way to theater, there is something for everyone. Girls are doing the theater camp in August!

Childcare:

It is very common to hire childcare while you vacation in SMA. Our experiences have all been excellent and very affordable! We also have a few locals that we like to use if these services aren't available, just ask :)

-
My Nanny Services: This is who we hired for the party and came highly recommended by the party planner.
-
SMA Sitters: They offer both babysitting and pet sitting, rates depend on the person.

Kid-Friendly Restaurants:

-
The Chicken Place! A.K.A Pollo San Miguel- Think of it like a super nice El Pollo Loco. They have great chicken and a great salad bar. But the kicker is the HUGE indoor place place. The kids will run around for hours while you enjoy a cold beer!

-
Bastardo- Great small restaurant in Centro near the Mercado. Known for their smoked cauliflower, they have a cute little outdoor play area in the back properly equipped with a rope to swing on ;)

-
Geek & Coffee – Cute little cafe at the Fabrica. Wide open space to run around, a friendly neighborhood chicken, ducks to feed and a coffee bar for you. Enough said.

-
Santo Camaron: Another favorite, this restaurant is barely outside Centro near some other great restaurants and weekend markets. It is known for their seafood, the pulpo diablo is the best! There is a big playset to entertain the kids while you enjoy one of their awesome margaritas!

-
Cerveceria Allende- Try a flight of local beers while the kids play one of their many games ranging from jenga, to uno to foosball.

-
City Market- You will be shocked at how amazing this local grocery store is! Equipped with a sit down restaurant, a sushi bar with a ceiling height aquarium, a spanish tapas bar and the cutest cafe with gelateria, this is the nicest grocery store you may ever visit, anywhere! Tip: the fish and chips at the sushi bar are fantastic!

-
El Pavo Real Del Campo- Run by some of our favorite people, El Pavo is the ideal place to spend a day on the weekend! Set on a ranch about 15 minutes outside Centro, they have the absolute best brunch and setting with tons of animals and a play area for kids. You can also buy a pool pass and truly spend the whole day here!

-
Mama Mia Campestre- Another country setting, Mama Mia is only about 25 minutes by car but you truly feel like you are in another world. Sit by their beautiful pond while the kids run around the open fields and tree house. Tip: You can reserve a teepee for the kids to picnic in with 24 hours notice.

-
Chocolates JOHFREJ C&V: Our kids love getting conejas chocolates, little chocolate rabbits, at this family run chocolate shop. Ingredients are locally sourced and chocolates are hand made.

Things to do:

-
Parque Juárez – Shaded paths, playgrounds, basketball court, fountains to splash in, and plenty of room to run wild.

-
La Esquina Toy Museum – A charming museum full of handcrafted Mexican toys. Interactive and so cute.

-
Biblioteca Pública – Great for story time, art events, and casual hangouts. Check out their list of classes for kids, we enjoyed an awesome piñata making class over the winter. There’s also a courtyard café!

-
Xote – Think of it as an old school water park straight out of the 90's. Fields of grass separate the slides, dotted with grills where families will camp out all day grilling their own asada. If you don't want to do any work, there is an onsite cafe that serves HUGE micheladas along with a Marisqueria!

-
Local Markets – Let the kids pick out their own pan dulce, fruit, or small toys. Interactive and low-pressure.
